Kangpokpi ADC, 5 other offices burned

Six government offices have been burned, three private vehicles razed and two cars badly damaged by suspected SHDDC on the second day of its indefinite general strike.
Suspected volunteers of the SHDDC set afire the ADC office at Kangpokpi and the office of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) located in Kangpokpi, 45 kms north of Imphal on National Highway 39, in the wee hours today.
Documents and records inside Sub Divisional Office (SDO), SDC office and Block Development Office (BDO) located at Saitu Gamnom, 30 kms north of Imphal on National Highway 39, were completely destroyed by the fire.
The office buildings were however saved by security forces stationed inside the compound, said the report.
A Maruti Swift car was set afire yesterday at 10 pm at Motbung, a Maruti Van (MN 06L/1288) and an unidentified Bajaj Pulsar were torched beyond redemption by irate strike supporters at 1:15 pm at Gamgiphai today.
Both the incident sites are on NH 39 .
Late reports said, two Maruti cars were also badly damaged by strike supporters at Henbung early evening today.
"We have taken the pledge to face any eventuality in order to realize our demand for the creation of Sadar Hills ADC into a full fledged district of Manipur," stated the chairman of the sub committee who appealed to the state government to desist from using force to suppress the people's movement.
Meanwhile, some 500 travellers, including around 100 women, remained stranded at Senapati district headquarters even as tension escalated along National Highway 39 .
With food and water fast running out, the stranded travellers have requested the state government to solve the impasse and to provide relief.
The demand for Sadar Hills district has been scaled up from a 7-day economic blockade that began July 31 midnight to an indefinite bandh beginning
Wednesday.
Tension has been mounting across Sadar Hills, with three persons already dead in blockade related incidents.
Around ten vehicles had also been torched by blockade supporters at several places along National Highways 39 and 53 and several others damaged.
Some drivers and co-travellers had also reported sustaining varying degrees of injuries because of stoning by strikers.
