Imphal, September 21 2009:
As the production of paddy will not be up to the mark this year due to scanty rainfall, the State needs to make up the agricultural output from winter crops, said Head of Department of Agronomy of Central Agricultural University, Dr L Nabachandra.
He made the suggestion while he was speaking in a kick-off ceremony of the Farmers' Field Day for the farmlands of Andro of Imphal East district, Tentha and Khangabok of Thoubal district today.
The Department is currently implementing IPM technology in 50 hectares each of farmland at these three places.
Informing that less rainfall in monsoon season is an indicator of scanty rainfall in winter season as well, Nabachandra suggested the farmers of the State to emphasise more on growing of drought resistant plants/vegetables for the coming winter season.
Speaking at the occasion, Deputy Director Ph Rajendra said that the Farmers' Field Day is being kicked off for the year 2009-10 to impart awareness on various menaces which are currently plaguing the crops.
Officials from Department of Agriculture and Central Agricultural University also took part in the programme.
