Imphal, September 21 2009:
Three students' organisations of Manipur -MSF, AMSU, and KSA - have warned the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and All India Students Federation (AISF) not to counter the ongoing movement demanding the resignation of CM O Ibobi.
In a joint statement, the Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), and Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) questioned the NSUI and AISF whether they would feel that sense of learning had Rabina and Sanjit been family members of the students' bodies.
Why the two students' bodies had maintained their silence when many students were not able to continue their study due to lack of several infrastructures?,
it asked.
Recalling the past incidents wherein NSUI leaders were taught a lesson for their stance against the people in 2000 and 2001, the joint statement rhetorically asked whether they would like to meet the same fate.
Did the then MPCC president O Ibobi and secretary Bidyapati Senjam protect the students' leaders from being attacked?, it asked while warning the AISF also to remain silent.
Further, rejecting the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM's) plea to exempt education in the agitation, the joint statement reminded the ATSUM's statement during its economic blockade - which pledged to carry on its blockade until their demands were met despite the appeals made by several sections of the society.
Correspondingly, though the agitating students' bodies would like to welcome the appeal made by the ATSUM, the time and circumstance has compelled the students' bodies to continue the agitation till the demands are met.
Urging the teachers' associations not to appeal for the withdrawal of the agitation, the statement reasoned that the agitation has been launched after considering the pros and cons.
It asserted that there will be no retract on the agitation until the demands - resignation of O Ibobi and punishment against guilty commandos - are achieved.
The three students' bodies also warned to initiate severe punishment against any government or private school which defies the class boycott call including shutting down of the school in the next academic session.
Stating that a war or movement is necessary for peace to prevail, the students' bodies urged the people to join in the agitation.
It also sensed a propaganda game played by the Congress and CPI MLAs and their henchmen for the prolongation of the agitation.
Saying that the BJP is dying down slowly due to its anti-people stance aftermath the June 18, 2001 incident, it further reminded the Congress and CPI that the same fate may befall upon them if they continue to stand against the people.
