Imphal, October 19 2010:
A convict sentenced to life imprisonment passed away following a prolonged illness in the security ward of JNIMS today.
Chanambam Ibopishak alias Bothey (59) of Langpok Mayai Leikai, Bishnupur district had been languishing in jail for the last eight years.
He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife.
In April/May this year, he was diagnosed as suffering from advanced stage of cancer.
The matter was put up in a meeting of Medical Board and preparations were being made to release him prematurely.
But he succumbed to the disease at about 6 am today.
The corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at JNIMS.
