Senapati district received highest amount of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Programme among nine districts of the state.
According to an official source, Senapati district has received a fund amount of Rs 1743.32 lakh so far for the current financial year 2010-11 and this amount is highest among the nine districts of the state, With Rs 1379.20 lakh received, Churachandpur district in the second position.
The amount received by other districts are indicated as Tamenglong Rs 671.32 lakh, Thoubal Rs 221.90 lakh, Ukhrul 700.68 lakh, Bishnupur Rs 14.59 lakh, Chandel Rs 436 lakh, Imphal east Rs 501.47 lakh and Imphal west Rs 798.98 lakh, an official source said.
In the previous 2009-10, Senapati district received Rs 9417.91 lakh which is also highest among other districts.
In this year, Tamenglong district received Rs 3318.72 lakh, Chandel received 3617.89 lakh, Churachandpur received Rs 5207 lakh, Imphal west received Rs 5100.59 lakh, Imphal east received Rs 2850.95 lakh, and Thoubal received Rs 1491.08 lakh while Ukhrul received Rs 4578.58 lakh.
Mention may be made that Central government's flagship programme MRNREGS was first implemented in Tamenglong district in the state.
Due to absent of elected local bodies, the scheme was being implemented with DC as chairman through the DRDA.
But, with the revival of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), government has started processing for implementing through the ADCs.
The scheme targets giving 100 days job to a member of a family in the rural areas of the country.
