A rally was organised in Tamenglong demanding a separate administration outside the government of Manipur for the Nagas in the hill districts of Manipur.
The banners and placards carried by the rallyists and those who spoke at a public meeting later asserted that the hills and the valley cann't stay together anymore.
The rallyists submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh through the SDO, Tamenglong, C Arthur W, IAS.
Speaking at the public gathering, Ningtangpou Kamei, former president of Zeliangrong Boudi (AMN), said that in pursuance of the declaration of the 3rd Naga People's Convention at Senapati on July 1 this year convened by the United Naga Council (UNC) regarding the intolerant partiality of the Manipur State government between the hills and the valley, we the Zeliangrong people are here today to demand separate administration outside the government of Manipur for Nagas of the hill districts of Manipur.
He said, the Naga people had demanded full power to the Autonomous District Councils Act before the election but it fell on the deaf ears of the Manipur government, and election was held.
Some people participated in the election.
Almost all government officers in Tamenglong district are from the valley, and they seldom stay and work at the district HQs.
The officer takes away all file and work to the valley, he said Due to many reasons the hills and the valley can't stay together, Naga people need separate administration.
"We need sufficient alternative arrangement under one umbrella, we need cooperation and unity", he said.
Guiliangliu Panmei, President Zeliangrongpui Boudi, Manipur, Thuiriang Panmei, General Secretary Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN) and Chunthuigai, State Secretary Zeliangrong Student's Union Manipur also spoke on the occasion and they mentioned that non- Nagas are encroaching the land of Nagas, specially in Tamenglong district.
In the memorandum submitted to the Dr Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, it demanded alternative arrangement for Nagas of Manipur.
The memo was signed by Guiliangliu Panmei, President Zeliangrongpui Boudi, Manipur, Thomas kamei, Chairman Zeliangrong Boudi, Manipur, Suaihiamlung Kamei, State Secretary Zeliangrong Boudi, Manipur, Philip Kamei, Zeliangrong Student's Union Manipur and Ramningle Pame, Women Co-ordinator Zeliangrong Boudi (AMN) .
