Imphal, November 23:
As part of the efforts being made by the Govt to keep Imphal city neat and clean, the eviction drive of street vendors along BT Road as well as on either sides of BT flyover began from today amidst strong protest.
The eviction drive was carried out under the overall supervision of OC of City Police, Munal from 8 am onward and continued till 5 pm covering the street vendors along both sides of BT Road as well as on either sides of BT fly over.
|
Talking to mediapersons, CO Munal informed that similar drive would also be carried out in other parts of Khwairamband market over the next few days.
The OC has appealed to all the street vendors to pack up their wares on their own accord to avoid any loss in the eviction.
Meanwhile, Khwairamband Keithel Street Vendors Welfare Union has come out strongly against the eviction drive by maintaining that it would deprive the livelihood of many poor people including womenfolk who are earning their daily income from selling vegetables.
In a statement, the Union said the Govt should have given sufficient time to the vendors to shift elsewhere.
