Dimapur, August 19:
Tension is still running high in the Tuensang district of Nagaland today following the killing of three cadres of the NSCN-IM by an infuriated mob at Tuensang in Nagaland.
Security measures have been tightened while the NSCN-IM has expressed regret that its cadres had "gone astray in such irresponsible manner".
Reports said that three cadres of the NSCN-IM were beaten to death inside the police lock-up at Tuensang police station yesterday by the public of the area.
According to reports received here, the three NSCN-IM cadres were arrested by the police for beating a police personnel.
But in no time the people in the area on learning the incident stormed into the police station and started beating the arrested cadres by using all sorts of available tools found.
Later on the three cadres succumbed.
"Though the NSCN never condone such wayward lifestyle of the Phom regional members, the uncivilized way of venting the public anger is all the more condemnable," said the NSCN-IM in a press release, adding, "our boys in the regional authority found themselves on the wrong side of the incident and we bow our head in shame that our boys went astray in such an irresponsible manner degrading the name of the NSCN in the eye of the public".
The press note of the NSCN-IM further read, "Human understanding is sometimes slow to act in the manner to save the situation from turning ugly.
But what has been done cannot be undone anymore.
The jungle culture of solving dispute should not have been applied by the Phom public.
And they ought to be ashamed of the backwardness of their mindset.
The Tuensang incident could have been avoided had the public exercised restraint by heeding the voice of the conscience that such passionate reaction is not demanded and things could have been sorted out in a more human manner.
May the Phom public be awakened to the reality that the world around them has changed in keeping with the rest of the civilized society.
And there are better ways of looking at the issue of any colour and solving it accordingly".
