Imphal, August 19:
The Imphal West district police has dismissed reports published by some State dailies in connection with the counter insurgency operation at Babupara area on August 17 morning as misleading.
With reference to report by a particular daily that the operation was carried out selectively and politically motivated, a statement issued by the SP (IW) Clay Khongsai clarified that the operation in Babupara area is part of the continuing CI Ops presently carried out prior to August 15 and post August 15, 2007.
"Further, not a single quarter of Minister/MLA/ex-MLA including civilian houses located at Babupara area was left untouched on the day of the operation," the statement reminded and confirmed rounding up of 105 individuals from different quarters of Ministers and MLAs.
out of 105 persons rounded up, 12 were detained for further verification and the rest released after thorough verification, maintained the SP and added 'out of the 12 persons detained, all were confirmed belonging to various UG outfits'.
Hence, the reporting is misleading to the public and its is earnestly requested that the professional job of the police may not be construed as politically motivated, mentioned the statement.
