Even as State unit CPI (M) has despatched a memorandum to the Prime Minister demanding discussion and approval of the Parliament to the points to be raised by India in the meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) which has begun from today at Hong Kong, activists of the SFI, Manipur State Committee today demonstrated against the WTO meeting at Sega Road here today.
The student activists went ahead with their sit-in-protest demonstration from 11 am to 3 pm in defiance of the restriction imposed under Cr PC 144.Th demonstration was organised as decided during the 12th All India conference of SFI held at Hy-derabad recently to protest undue pressure and interference from developed countries in the economic policies of the developing and third world countries.
Wakat Meepham: The agitating members of the All Manipur Die-in-Harness Appointment Demand Committee made aborted attempt twice to enter the Assembly complex to raise their demands today.
The agitation in the form of Wakat Meepham being launched by the Committee demanding revival of the Die-in-Harness scheme by the State Government has completed 11 days today.
Intensifying the agitation on the 11th day today, two women Committee members, namely P Rajeshwori Devi and S Danamanjuri Devi attempted to enter the Assembly complex while shouting slogans and distributing leaflets containing the demands of the Committee in the morning.
Later, in the afternoon, two more women members also made yet another attempt to enter the Assembly complex, but it was in vain.
Meanwhile, as decided already, the agitating Committee members would put on hold its sit-in-protest demonstration from tomorrow and would be convening a general body meeting to discuss the further course of action to be taken up.
Adhoc stir: The total number of agitating adhoc employees who have been arrested and lodged in the jail has reached 19 with the arrest of seven more adhoc employees who were participating in the second phase of the relay hunger strike on the 7th day today.
