In one of the largest haul of UG activists and money in recent times, Imphal West commandos picked up three members of the NSCN (K) including a Kilonser and seized Rs 1.5 lakh and several incriminating documents from the trio.
According to Imphal West SP Clay Khongsai the commandos based on specific information about presence of the Kilonser and his accomplices raided some residential pockets in Paona Bazar area at around 5.45 pm yesterday.
The SP who was speaking to news persons after display of the seized money at Commando Complex today, detailed that the operation was carried out by commando personnel divided into six groups that included identifying suspected hideout, sealing off the area and searches in and around the location.
As the security personnel narrowed down the cordoned area they were nabbed from the rented quarter of one Ashibou Sebo, he informed.
Among the three persons arrested one has been identified as SK Losii Peter Poumei (40) s/o (L) SK Maru Poumei and said to be kilonser of outfit's Shepoumaramth region and finance chief in-charge of Manipur.
Peter's accomplices have been named as SK David Poumei (30) s/o (L) SK Maru Poumei and S Jhovei Poumei (23) s/o S Tongthou.
While David is said to belong to combat unit of the NSCN (K) Jhovei is yet to be accorded rank, contended the SP while adding that all three are from Ngairi Raidulomei village of Senapati district.
In addition to the impounded amount a note book entering details on �collection and expenditure' another printed copy of �percentage collection' were found from the kilonser's possession, said Clay Khongsai.
Items recovered from David include Rs 50,000 demand note of the outfit addressed to the president and secretary of Moreh Bus Association and signed by kilonser of GPRN's trade and commerce H Hiipuni Pou.
Another demand note addressed to General manager of DIC, Senapati and carrying signature of one captain Thomas could be recovered from S Jhovei, said the SP.
The demand note also included instruction for five percent deduction from the DIC's weaving scheme and 24 pc from the employees' salaries, he claimed.
Complementing the competence and alertness of commando personnel towards sanitising Imphal area from clutches of disruptive elements, Clay Khongsai stated that such achievement reflects commitment of State forces to check breach of peace and tranquillity by activists of UG organisations.
Appropriate action under relevant law would be initiated against the arrested persons, he added.
In another case of UG arrest, Imphal East district SP L Kailun in a statement issued today, informed of the district police apprehending a KCP activist following cordon and search operation at Khongnang Karak at around 7.55 pm yesterday.
Identifying the arrested KCP man as Warekpam Amu Singh alias Achouba (32) of Deulaland, the SP mentioned of the arrestee's disclosure of joining the outfit in February 2004 through one s/s 2nd Lt Modhu of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai.
Meanwhile, troopers of 22 Maratha Light Infantry arrested a KYKL activist identified as Wahengbam Madhuchandra alias Imo (28) s/o W Ibomcha of Awang Jiri Mamang Leikai when search operation was launched there today, informed PRO Hq IGAR ina statement.
The PRO further informed of 22 MLI troopers seizing 7 tonnes of illegal timbers from a Shaktiman (MN01/5183) during random search of vehicle at Uklou.
