The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Manipur, Nagaland & Assam) has banned the export of timbers from Manipur's Zeliangrong region with immediate effect.
Briefing Newmai News Network on the pitiable condition of forest lands in hilly Zeliangrong region of Manipur, ZYF (Central) president Poujeng Kamei said that local people and outsiders had been smuggling timbers and other forest products from the region especially from Kuilongdi and Makuinongdi and some parts of Tousem for over ten years.
The body warned of stern action against those defying the ZYF order and urged the people to preserve their forests at any cost.
It is worth mentioning that many riversand streams have dried and some rivers are polluted beyond repair in the Zeliangrong region due to environmental degradation.
