In consonance with the auspicious occasion of Gaan Ngai, a programme of gift exchange was organised by the All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) today at Ragailong.
The programme of which presentation of cultural dance was the main highlight culminated with a feast enjoyed altogether.
Today's programme was organised by AMESCO with the objective to restore the age old harmony and unity among the different ethnic groups and communities of Manipur.
The function was attended by Father of Social Workers, Th Iboyaima, president of AMESCO, Anek Vaiphei, secretary IB Luwang, Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Ito Tongbram and president of Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi, Memchoubi.
Speaking on the occasion, Khangchu of Ragailong of Ragailong, Thawaijao observed that the Meiteis and Kabuis are brothers by blood and pointed many similarities between Meitei and Kabui in their cultures, tradition, rites and rituals.
He also wished for continuation of such exchange of gifts on the occasion of Gaan Ngai in future.
In his address, Th Iboyaima emphasised on inter-marriage even as we have been kept apart by our narrow bigotry in the past.
Our tradition of gift exchange among different ethnic groups is a clear manifestation of love and mutual cooperation among us, said Dhanabir Laishram and added that no group can be well off or peaceful while the others are reeling under violence or poverty and our destiny should be a collective one.
Memchoubi appealed to strive together to bring peace and harmony in Manipur.
