Imphal, May 05 2009: Asserting that the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district, FCS Dept and the transport contractor of Senapati district have failed to fulfil their commitment, the Senapati District Fair Price Shop (FPS) Agents Association has called bandh on NH 39 with effect from the midnight of May 7 till midnight of May 8 .

In a press release, the association decried the failure of the concerned authorities to redress the problems of non-issuance of PDS items of January and February 2008 for 14 villagers under Mao A/C, non-issuance of BPL and AAY rice quota for the month of March 2008 and non-issuance of PDS quota for November and December 2008 and January to April 2009 .

It demanded that the Govt should allow deposition of money for AAY and BPL rice quotas for December 2008 as well as for April 2009 now. The association also asked the Government to fix a definite date for issuing monthly quotas of PDS items.

The FPS agents also sought a clarification from the Senapati DC for the harsh and abusive words she reportedly against their president and secretary when they approached her at her quarter on April 12 for extension of deposit time.

Disclosing that the agents were not allowed to deposit money for monthly quotas of APL rice and sugar except once in December last year, it sought an explicit clarification from the Government.

It further urged upon the Govt to make an alternative arrangement so that the district's share/quota of AAY, BPL, APL and sugar can be unloaded at Senapati.

Medical, water supply, electricity and fire brigade will be exempted from the 24 hours NH 39 bandh.

The bandh shall be followed by indefinite economic blockade along the highway from May 10 in case the Government fails to come up with a positive response even after the bandh, added the release.
