Acting on a PIL filed by the Centre for Legal Advancement Manipur against the press note of Senior Superintendent of Police, Imphal which made it compulsory for all two-wheeler riders as well as pillion riders to wear helmets, the Gauhati High Court has issued a stay order.
The Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench comprising of Justice Maibam Binoy Kumar and Justice AC Upadhay passed the stay order today after hearing the counsel for the writ petitioner and the Govt Advocate, conveyed a press release issued by the Centre for Legal Advancement Manipur.
Consequent upon the stay order against the SSP's press note, the general public cannot be detained or punished for not wearing helmets/protective gears until further orders from the High Court, added the release.
