Imphal, May 05 2009:
Even as the state CPI and the MPP had lodged complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the alleged rigging and proxy-voting at some polling stations in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency in the recently held Lok Sabha election, the ECI is yet to respond to the complaint till now.
At the same time, stage has been set for the counting of votes in the Outer and Inner Manipur Parliamentary elections on May 16.The Manipur Chief Electoral Officer, Shambhu, is also yet to return from Delhi where he has been camping since last week.
When contacted, the CPI Manipur state council and MPP leaders have told that no response from the ECI has been coming so far.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur CEO has intimated the ECI that the Parliamentary elections in Inner Manipur was conducted without any hitch on April 22 last.
Observers here have felt that the complaint lodged with the ECI seems not to bear any result.
MPP president Dr L Chandramani, Legislature Wing Leader O Joy, MLA Ibohanbi, and MPP Candidate Th Chaoba went to New Delhi on April 25 and registered their complaint with the ECI while the CPI candidate Dr M Nara and CPI (M) Central Committee Member Ksh Shanta had filed a complaint with the ECI on April 26 last. The CPI and its allies have ceased its protest after staging series of sit in protests.
The MPP too has discontinued its protest, which even resorted to burning effigies.
