Tekcham Polo Club-a won a thrilling encounter against Manipur Police sports club-A to wrest the title of the 24th N Hazari State Polo Tournament at Imphal Pologround today.
Trailing the police side in the opening chukker of the final match, the eventual champion rode on P Ojit's three goal blitz, including one in the extra session, to win the coveted title with a 4-3 victory margin.
The police side took the lead in the opening chukker through S Bobby and S Bimol doubled the advantage early in the second session before Ojit's first of the match and one from M Doren restored parity for Tekcham.
With scoreline at the end of the penultimate chukker remaining unchanged the tussle intensified in the fourth session with Bimol notching home MPSC's third in the opening seconds which Ojit equalised seconds before end of the final chukker to take the match to the extra chukker.
Ojit's third of the match 2.27 seconds into the decisive session ensured the facile win for the Tekcham side.
President of the tournament host Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association S Buddhachandra Singh (IAS) and Manipur Olympic Association vice president Dr S Joykumar were respectively the chief guest and president of the final match while Director (V&AH) Dr Th Jeevan Singh and Naorem (O) Sanatombi Devi graced the occasion as the guests of honour.
