The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Imphal-Moreh Road Transporters has appealed all concerned groups, individuals, government agencies, etc not to impose unreasonable taxes on the National Highway 39 (Imphal-Moreh sector) lest the transporters will stop plying along the road.
Talking to media persons Tuesday at the Manipur Press Club, the Secretary of the JAC, Ng Haridas appeals all militant groups, individuals, government agencies, to stop taxing transporters along this road while urging them to follow the footstep of RPF/PLA which announces cessation of collecting tax to transporter along this route.
Haridas said ending of tax collection by all concerns would certainly boost the economy of the people.
He said the PREPAK (Shanti) had also ceased collecting tax since last year.
He further revealed that apart from various militant groups imposing tax to transporters, police stations, forest check posts, excise check posts, custom check posts, and IRB, MR, police commando along this road are levying tax to the transporters.
Haridas cautioned that the transporters will cease services if the government agencies do not stop levying unreasonable taxes to vehicles.
The NSCN (IM) has charged Rs 5000 each to every bus plying along this road as annual tax apart from imposing Rs 1200 daily.
They impose Rs 1500 to each Tata Sumo annually while charging Rs 130 daily.
Van Cars plying along this road have been levied Rs 1000 each as annual tax, Haridas pointed out.
The UKLF has also charged nearly the same amount imposed by the NSCN (IM) on yearly and monthly basis.
Both the NSCN (IM) and the UKLF have been collecting the taxes at Pallel, Haridas said.
He said that the UMLA has also been levying annual and daily taxes to transporters along the road at Tengnoupal while the KNA and the UNLF have been taxing the transporters at Moreh on yearly and daily basis.
He added that PREPAK is imposing an annual tax of Rs 10000 to buses while also charging on daily basis to other vehicles.
The KYKL, KCP, PULF (Azad &MI Khan), KNF (P, S, and Z) have also charged the transporters on daily and annual basis, Haridas said.
He added that the Moreh Police Gate, Moreh Custom, Excise, IRB, CID, have also charged the transporters amount varying from Rs 1000 per bus to Rs 2500 on daily basis at various check posts and gates.
