With the work of laying cables under ground for power supply to some specific town areas like Paona Keithel, Thangal Keithel and MG Avenue nearing completion, power supply through underground cables would launched within 2 months.
The project of laying cables under ground was taken up under the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP) .
An official source in Power Dept informed that installation of electric transformers would begin very soon in areas where underground cables have been fitted.
This project is being implemented by the Kolkata based Indo Power Private Limited under the Govt of India.
For installation of transformers once the cable laying work is completed, the Kolkata based firm has already procured the required electric transformers and stored at Kangla.
These transformers would be handed over to the Power Dept after installation work is completed.
Power supply under APDRP through underground cables would be launched within two months at the latest, informed the source.
The Govt has plan to start installation of pre-paid meter systems in some specific areas of Imphal within the current month so that power tariffs can be collected regularly based on the rate of power consumed by consumers.
In case, this plan cannot be executed within March, it would be initiated by the beginning of April.
For this, necessary materials including pre-paid meter readers would be procured very soon, added the official.
