Imphal, March 18:
Possibilities for setting up a "Bamboo Base Power Plant" at Tamenglong dist the first of its kind in the North East is very high, said Tamenglong Bamboo and Cane Development Centre (TABAC) project coordinator Nehemia Panmei.
Talking to The Sangai Express today, Nehemia Panmei informed that 90% of the project would be funded by the Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources (MNES) while the remaining 10% would be provided by the Bamboo Development Mission (BDM).
The total cost of the project including the civil works is estimated to be about Rs 33.3 lakhs, he added.

He stated also that bamboos would be used for converting combustible gas and chemical energy in the Gassifiers set up in the plant and added that ashes from the Gassifers would then be converted into charcoal through another procedure.
Trainings would also be given to the people regarding the conversion of ashes into charcoal, he said.
Even though the Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources is ready to release the funds for starting the power plant, the proposal for the project has not been forwarded to the Ministry by Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency till today, he lamented.
TABAC's repeated appeals for forwarding the proposal to the concerned Ministry have all fallen on deaf ears; he rued and further appealed to the authorities to forward the project's proposal immediately.
