As part of the ongoing preparation for the 14th Lok Sabha elections, a meeting of political parties in Manipur was conducted today at the Conference Hall of Old Secretariat with Chief Election Officer V Chibber presiding the session.
During the deliberation, also attended by Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Y Surchandra, who is also the Returning Officer for the up-coming polls, V Chibber informed that besides State police forces, 68 companies of the CRPF and 15 BSF companies would be deployed to ensure free and fair election.
In the 28 Assembly segments of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, the voters numbering 7,95,792 would exercise franchise at 1090 polling stations whereas for the Inner seat a total of 7,40,716 electorates would cast votes in 911 polling stations across to 32 Assembly Constituencies.
On completion of the two phase election on April 20 and 26 counting of votes will be done in all the district headquarters including at the respective Additional Deputy Commissioner's office of Jiribam and Kangpokpi with adequate security arrangement, the CEO reportedly stated.
At each counting hall 15 tables would be placed to count from the electronic voting machines (EVMs), he added.
