Secretary, Department of North-East Region, Reva Nayyar has inaugurated an exclusive, focused, multi-product trade exhibition - North East Trade Expo-2004 (NEXPO-2004), at New Delhi today.
The exhibition displays a variety of products and services from the region.
The four-day exhibition, from March 18 to 21, is being organized jointly by the Department of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India and India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO).
The expo seeks to open new avenues for trade, commerce, and business expansion, joint ventures and investment opportunities in the North-Eastern Region comprising the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
This exhibition is scheduled to be an annual event from now onwards.
Participants have come from the 8 States of the North Eastern Region, Central Ministries/CPSUs, Chambers of Commerce and the private sector.
The timing of the Fair is particularly significant in the light of SAPTA providing fresh opportunities in neighboring markets.
The eight North-Eastern States have a unique advantage of proximity to South and South-East Asian markets like Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Singapore, China and Thailand etc.
The event has been planned in accordance with policy of the Government of India to accelerate efforts for speedy socio-economic development in the North Eastern Region.
While highlighting the intrinsic potential of North East States, the display profile covers, among others, handicrafts, handlooms, textiles, furnishing, bamboo and cane products, floriculture, horticulture, organic food products, medicinal and herbal plant's processed food etc.
Recent product innovations and possibilities of harnessing untapped trade and tourism potential are also being featured.
To make the Event particularly meaningful, Buyer-Seller Meets Seminars, film Shows, plays, art exhibition, food courts offering NE cuisine are among the other major highlights.
The venue is in air conditioned Hall No 7 ABC, Pragati Maidan.
The exhibition will remain open for general public from 2 pm to 7 pm.
On 21st it will be open from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm.
