In a shocking development, three riflemen serving in the 1st Bn Manipur Rifles have been found missing while on duty.
The three missing riflemen have been identified as NK Joy Bahadur (No 12066), NK Purna Bahadur (1377) and Ham Bahadur (13339).All are reported to be from New Checkon, Porompat.
Wives of the three missing jawans in three different complaints filed to the Manipur Human Rights Commission, narrated the stories of their missing husbands.
They prayed before the rights panel for taking up appropriate and necessary action on the matter and release ex-gratia, pension, retirement benefits, gratuity etc amounting to a total amount of Rs 10 lakhs each in favor of them.
Januki, wife of NK Joy Bahadur stated that her husband had been serving in the 1 st Bn Manipur Rifles since 1964 till his whereabouts became unknown on May 26, 1977.Her husband was found missing while he was posted at Kangchup Dag Bunglow.
No departmental inquiry was conducted nor show cause notice served in connection with any offence on her husband, she said.
The matter was reported to both Lamshang and Imphal PS but no steps have been taken till date.
Surprisingly, she came to know her husband was terminated by an order dated May 24, 1977.NK Purna's wife Phulmaya stated that her husband was appointed as rifleman in 1961 and was found missing in 1977.A missing complaint was also lodged with the police station concerned but to no avail.
Surprisingly, a dismissal order was also issued against her husband she said while contending that her husband had never absconded at any point of time and as such the dismissal order cannot be acted upon according to law.
A termination order against her husband dated July 1, 1978 with effect from Nov 1 of the same year was also produced before her when she approached the authorities about her missing husband, she lamented.
The third complaint is Dilmaya wife of Hem Bahadur who stated in her complaint that her husband joined Manipur Rifles in 1970 but was found missing on Jan 19, 1983.Like the two complaints, the police failed to trace the whereabouts of her husband despite many complaints.
To her surprise she also came to know that her husband was terminated from his service, she added in the complaint.
