Police retrieved yet another bomb which was found planted at Kiyamgei Pal Ahanbi under Singjamei Police Station Police at around 9.20 am today.
The bomb is said to be same like the one recovered from near Singjamei Super Market area some days back.
Bomb experts of the Police Department removed the bomb at around 11 am and later detonated it successfully at the garbage dumping ground located along Lamphel-Langol Road at around 12.05 pm.
On the other hand, PRO Assam Rifles claimed that an alerted soldier of 32 Assam Rifles detected a deadly explosive device which was destroyed in time to avert a likely mayhem today.
The PRO said during the routine check for the safety of NH-39 by a road opening party of 32 Assam Rifles, Rifleman Ajit Singh noticed a suspicious looking object at 9.30 am.
On closer observation, it was noticed that claymore type IED studded with shrapnel was concealed in a bush just 3 metres away on the left side of NH-39, barely 500 metres from the main gate of Manipur University, Chanchipur.
The explosive device was made of three inch thick curved one foot long metal weighing five kilogram of explosive and it was connected to a remote call-bell with 100 metre of wire covered by carbon paper to avoid detection.
The explosive device was destroyed in situ by bomb disposal squad of police at 10.45 am today thus averting a major loss to human lives had it gone undetected by an alert soldier, the PRO said, adding that the troops of 32 Assam Rifles were also instrumental in destruction of a liquid IED near Lilong bridge on September 5.
