Imphal, November 04: Two persons including a personnel of Manipur Rifles, who were allegedly trying to rob the people of their money and vehicles along the road at Taobungkhok Lamkhai Wapokpi, were rounded up and handed over to the police.

While briefing media-persons, SP of Imphal West District Clay Khongsai informed that the MR personnel made his accomplice wear his uniform and made him stand near by while he tried to rob money and vehicles from the people coming along the road at Taobungkhok Lamkhai Wapokpi area last night.

The accused MR personnel belongs to 2nd MR Battalion and is identified as Pechimayum Lolito (35) s/o Ibocha.

His Rifleman number is 0197087.His accomplice is identified as one Thounaojam Rama-nanda (23) s/o Chandra alias Kullachandra.

Both are residents of Langjing Achouba.

According to information given by the SP, Lolito and Ramananda stopped two youngsters who were coming from Phayeng side on an Activa and demanded all the money that they had the money they had.

They found only Rs 20 and took it from them.

Not happy with this catch, they decided and were trying to seize the Activa when they saw three other Motorcycle (Pulser) borne youths coming from Khumbong after seeing a musical programme.

When Lolito stopped the Pulser borne youths, one of them demanded to know why they were being stopped.

Lolito said they are MR personnel and were on routine frisking duties.

Suspicious of the whole thing, one of the motor cycle borne youths pretended himself to be a CRPF personnel and questioned where were the other MR personnel, to which Lolito replied that the rest are in the Gypsy which was supposedly stationed little further away.

The youth who was posing as CRPF personnel took Lolito by his hand and said that he was taking him for verification in his battalion.

While dragging him, a plastic packet containing locally brew-wine fell from his pocket thereby confirming the Lolito was only trying to rob the people.

Immediately, they raised an alarm, alerting the other two youths who came from Phayeng side and over-powered both Lolito and Ramananda.

After reporting the matter, a commando team of Imphal West District Police came and took into custody both the accused.
