Based on a complaint filed by the Kuki Chiefs� Association, Chandel district, the Kuki Movement for Human Rights has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh demanding action against 18 Assam Rifles involved in the killing of Nungkam village chief S Sholet mate and adequate compensation to families of the deceased as well as another villager alleged to be a torture victim of the security men.
The rights body in its representation to the State Government mentioned of the torture survivor - Jamkhomang Mate - detailing to the body�s vice president Dr S Chongloi of Sholet Mate being subjected to brutal torture, dragged away and shot at the back and head portions.
Jamkhomang is informed to have been with the Nungkam chief from arrest till succumbing to torture wounds, the KMHR maintained.
Categorically rejecting rebuttal issued by Assam Rifles authorities the memorandum said �concocted and make-belief stories cannot justify inhuman torture and gruesome murder of the innocent chief.
The KMHR also demanded that judicial inquiry be ordered to ascertain the truth, compensate the victim�s family and re-imburse medical expenses incurred in treatment of Jamkhomang Mate.
