Representatives of various bodies comprising of human rights, student and women organisation submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh detail ground hardships being endured by several Jiribam sub-division villagers in the aftermath of intense cordon and search operations.
Conveying submission of the spot visit findings in a joint press briefing at Manipur Press Club today LC Jenine speaking on behalf of the bodies reiterated previous reports of security personnel resorting to large scale human rights abuse.
He cited electric shock to a school teacher and taking into custody two girls after by the security force personnel as some undeniable facets of atrocities and traumas besieging villagers of over four settlements in and around barak River circle.
The post operation fear and �Army phobia�, as described by the speaker is due to some non-Manipuri group instigating the security force in threatening the local settlers to vacate certain inhabited area and restriction on agricultural and cash crop activities.
Elucidating on the intimation to the Chief Minister, Jenine mentioned of the bodies narrating instances of armed outfits including NSCN (IM) and HPC (D) of compounding the situation by assisting Army personnel.
Till date 11 villagers of Lamdai Khunou are still missing and over 150 internally displaced persons including large number of women and children needing immediate attention.
Urging to Government to take proper measures on rehabilitation aspect and restoring normalcy in the affected villages, the memorandum also demanded provision of urgent and adequate logistics and compensation to victims of �Operation Tornado�.
