Imphal, November 04:
Noted human rights activist and president of the All Manipur Bar Association, Khaidem Mani has come out strongly against the series of human rights violation perpetrated by the security force in recent times in different parts of the State.
Mani also came out heavily against the State Government over its failure to repair the defunct power transformers which have robbed the people their right to power supply and threatened to take up legal action against the Government.
Coming to the series of excesses committed by the security force at Jiribam and Nungkon in Chandel district, the rights defender said that all the excesses and human rights violations were conducted in the name of counter-insurgency operations.
Commenting on the killing of Sholet Mate, chief of Nungkon village by Assam Rifles personnel, Khaidem Mani said that this was a clear case of extra-judicial killing.
Rejecting the AR's contention that the chief was shot dead after he failed to heed the warning to stop, Mani said that a respectable and a responsible man would never run on seeing security personnel.
To get to the truth of the matter a judicial inquiry should be instituted, demanded Mani.
On the snapping off of power supply at Yurembam power sub-station by an Army Captain for about 2 hours on November 2, Khaidem Mani said that legal action should be taken up against the security personnel.
