Imphal, November 04:
Following the lodging of a case against an Army Captain and his men for forcibly shutting down the power supply to Imphal at the 132 KV Yurembam power sub-station on November 2, the Duty Magistrate yesterday issued non-bailable arrest of warrants against the said officer and 50 of his subordinates involved in the incident.
The case was lodged following strict instructions from the Chief Secretary to initiate criminal proceedings against the Army officer and his men.
Efforts by The Sangai Express to contact the GOC of 57 Mountain Division drew blank and Brigadier Arora, who picked up the phone on behalf of the GOC said that he has no knowledge of the Court issuing such warrants.
The officer in the docks, Captain Pillai of the Military Engineering Services of 57 Mountain Division based at Leimakhong led a team of security force and forcibly shut down the power supply at Yurembam on November 2.Delivering its ruling yesterday, the Duty Magistrate asked the SP of Imphal West to effect the arrest within the shortest possible time.
A well placed source informed The Sangai Express that the Duty Magistrate will forward the case to the CJM tomorrow and added that the arrest warrants were issued after perusing the police report submitted by Patsoi Police Station.
The Army personnel led by the Captain reportedly barged into the control room of the power sub-station and forced the power cut off for about two hours following a 15 hour black out at Leimakhong.
