Irate people set power transformer on fire

Imphal, January 22: Enraged with the repeated failure of the authority concerned including the Chief Minister to repair the defunct power transformer of Heirok Part II, people have burned down the transformer on January 20.A statement issued by the Friends in Need Society, Heirok informed that after repeated appeals and reminders to the electricity Department, people approached the ex-MLA, Power Minister and the Chief Minister to redress their grievance which they have been enduring for the last five months.

In response to their appeal, the authority assured to repair and reinstall the transformer by January 17.As there was no sign of repairing the defunct transformer by the promised date, a public meeting was held on January 20 after which the enraged people set on fire the defunct transformer, it added.
