Imphal, April 16:
Pledging to intensify its agitation till demands for implementation of the Meetei mayek script is conceded the Meetei Eron Eyek Loinasinlon Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Kangleipak condemned the indifferent attitude of the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and his Ministerial colleagues even as the agitation has reached a critical stage.
Exuding confidence of the ongoing agitation attaining its cherished goal the script agitation spearhead described its movement as paving the way to establish a better tomorrow for the up-coming generation.
No amount of prison term or intimidation to the MEELAL activists could subdue the determined struggle against prolonged suppression of aspiration of the Manipuri people whose sentiment at continuation of Bengali script rather than uplift Meetei Mayek should be clearly understood by the SPF Government, said a MEELAL statement.
Terming as unfortunate inability of the CM to understand the genuineness of the MEELAL demand the body recalled hasty retreat made by the O Ibobi-led Government after the Bir Tikendrajit Fly-over foundation stone inscription goof-up as another manifestation of Govt callousness.
It is also a matter of grave concern that the State Government could not adopt a definite stand on the Meetei Mayek issue inspite of the Central Government already granting recognition and including the same in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution several years back, it maintained.
Asserting that decision to target the State Central Library was adopted during a meeting held on April 13 on intensifying the agitation, MEELAL acknowledged public concerned at destruction of important documents in the inferno but fervently appealed to the people against outbursts that could discourage its activists from shouldering societal responsibility.
