Slated to be first of its kind, not only in the North Eastern region but in the whole country, a working plan on �Management of Forest in Sustainable and Scientific Manner� has been prepared for two Forest Divisions of the State Forest Department in conformity with National Forest Policy, 1988.According to a reliable source, it is a plan to be taken up for over a period of 10-year and was prepared by a 7-member committee with Principal Chief Conservation of Forest (PCCF) and Conservator of Forest (Working Plan) as chairman and member secretary respectively.
The Chief Conservator of Forest, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Regional Office, Shillong who is also the authority to give the technical approval of the plan is one of the members of the Committee, the source informed.
The working plan for the Eastern Forest Division (Ukhrul) was prepared by the Working Plan Division-I and that of Tengnoupal Forest Division (Chandel) by Working Plan Division-II, the source added.
The source further informed that the Centre has already given its technical approval to the plan in January this year and it is awaiting the administrative approval of the State Government.
The source maintained that the working plan has been prepared after a thorough study of the existing forest resources, forest products required, rate at which forest resources are degrading over the past few decades, etc.
