Imphal, July 09:
Responding to numerous allegations against the inefficient postal service here, especially in relation to the non delivery of mobile phone bills, the post master of Churachandpur sub post office, DC Brahma said that the department is trying its best to deliver all incoming mail to the address, but there is no-thing they could do about incomplete addresses.
"If a phone subscriber writes his address only as Tedim Road, where do we start looking for him?, he queried.
Talking to the Sangai Express at his office yesterday, DC Brahma also said that the Ccpur post office has recently been upgraded to the status of Mukha Dak Ghar (MDG) and claimed that there is no shortage of MO forms and stamps now, except for those of rupee one denominations, which he said are not presently available even in Guwahati.
He however, admitted the extreme shortage of man power for delivery purposes and said that there are only four postmen covering the whole town.
Sources said that some of these postal employees had also never come to Churachandpur and employed the service of some others whom they paid a meagre sum each month, which added to the problem.
When asked whether requests for more personnel were ever made to the higher authorities, given that the situation has been like this since along time, he replied that the problem was well known to the authorities.
It may be mentioned that there were numerous complaints on the poor functioning of the post office here since a long time.
There were reports of official letters and MO delayed or not delivered and magazines and periodicals getting lost.
