Three persons including a child have been swept away last night while trying to cross the Thoubal river in their bid to escape from the retaliatory firing of the 28th Assam Rifles post located at Yairipok, said sources.
Sources informed that AR personnel began firing indiscriminately from their post last night when well armed militants attacked their camp with sophisticated bombs and arms.
The three victims have been identified as Laitonjam Jenny (8) s/o Jiten, Keisham Johnson alias Boiboi (18) and Laitonjam Ibotomba (40).Meanwhile, the public has been requested to contact the telephone numbers 953848, 263227 and 95385-2445029 for any information on the missing bodies.
Sources further informed that all shops at Yairipok Bazar downed their shutters and passenger buses stayed off the road as a mark of protest against last night's indiscriminate firing.
A public meeting was also organized in the area this morning in connection with the incident where the militant attack came under severe criticism demanding that such attacks should not be carried out at residential areas.
While women members of Yairipok areas are staying overnight at Yairipok bazar men folk are continuing search for the bodies.
Man held: Following a complaint from a woman, personnel of Imphal police station arrested a constable of Narcotics and Affairs of Borders (NAB) on charge of raping the complainant, said sources.
The arrested man has been identified as Oinam Naba of Oinam.
