Imphal, December 01 2010:
Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) has demanded revelation of UNLF Chief RK Meghen's whereabouts and condition of his health.
Bringing the rebel leader to fair trial according to the law of the land would be only means to avoid people's uprising, said the social body in a press release.
Maintaining that it has been always the policy of the India Government to detain a rebel in the custody more than the legal stipulated time, FREINDS added that India Government has violated its own law by detaining RK Meghen for around two months without taking any legal processor.
It added that chief of PLA North East Region, N Bisheshor was arrested from Khongjom by Indian Army on July 6, 1981 and detained in their custody for one year.
FREINDS remembered that Bisheshor wrote in his book, The last expression on my death bed, that he developed lack of memory and deterioration of his health after he was detained for long.
Maintaining that people came to know later that the rebel leader was slow poisoned by security forces in their custody, FREINDS expressed apprehension that the same might have done with RK Meghen as well.
At this juncture, FREINDS said, the State Govt must act as Assam Govt did when ULFA leaders were arrested.
