The FXB Suraksha Manipur Branch in association with Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS), civil organizations, schools and various other individuals today organized the 8th World AIDS Orphans Day at the office premises of state FXB Suraksha branch at Singjamei Chongtham Leikai .
A rally particpated by students, people living with AIDS/HIV and employees working on HIV/AIDS also carried out on the streets starting from from the office of FXB to Singjamei Super Market in connection with the occasion.
Joint Director of MACS, Abhiram Khongujam and Councilor of Ward number 16 of Singjamei, Meishnam Subhash graced the function as chief guest and president respectively while Executive Director of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) Meihoubam Rakesh and Secretary General of Organization for Salvation of Men, Pran Konsam took part as the guests of honor.
Speaking on the occasion, Meihoubam Rakesh said that there are several laws for the welfare of the disadvantaged section in a society.
There is a juvenile welfare committee each under the Juvenile Justice Act which in Manipur is just for namesake.
Abhiram in his statement said that 7821 women in the state are living with HIV/AIDS and considering this fact approximately 5000 children in the state are expected to have accompanied with HIV/AIDS.
Out of 1913 children reported for ART, around 500 children are able to be availed with ART.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the painting competition held on May 06 in relation to the occasion.
