A class XII student, Thingbaijam Anand (19), son of Th Nabakumar of Irengbam under Nambol police station in Bishnupur district, has escaped from his captors.
Source said, Anand was abducted for Rs 5 lakh ransom.
Thingbaijam Nabakumar is a lecturer of Imphal College, Imphal.
According to Anand, who escaped from his abductors, two unidentified persons requested Anand to lead them to a place around 4.30pm yesterday.
The two persons, along with some other accomplices, overpowered him and took him under custody when they reached Khujairok.
He was then blindfolded and later taken to unknown location.
Anand was taken to a place which seems like a mustard leaves farm.
The captors then phoned someone to arrange a Gypsy.
He was left under the care of two persons.
Taking advantage of the presence of only two persons, he managed to unveil the blindfold and began to run till the nearby road.
He continued to run for his life despite repeated threats that he would be shot if he tries to run.
Anand came across a Maruti Van.
But the vehicle ignored the plea to stop the vehicle perhaps due to the man was with tied hands.
He then encountered a vehicle of a marriage party.
Since there was someone who was known to him in the vehicle, he was picked up in the vehicle.
He was then dropped at his house by a team of Nambol police and an escort party of MLA I Ibohalbi.
A public meeting was convened at Irengban today in connection with the incident.
The meeting resolved to demand clarification from the group concerned on the abduction of Th Anand.
Among others, the meeting decided to stage a sit-in-protest tomorrow against the kidnapping of Anand and the locals also decided to restrict entry of outsiders in the locality from 7pm to 5am.Thingbaijam Nabakumar said, a particular underground group had served a demand note of Rs 5 lakh recently.
The matter was resolved by the college authority.
He said, the abductors of his son had demanded Rs 5 lakh as ransom money through telephone while his son was in their custody.
