Police remand for 2 suspected arsonists

Imphal, April 15: Two persons picked up in connection with the torching of the State Central Library were today remanded to police custody for further interrogation.

Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal yesterday remanded the two suspects, Th Anandakumar (24) and L Surjit Singh to police custody till April 21.Police registered an FIR against the two under section 447,506,436,338,427/34 IPC, 7 Cril Law Amendment Act and 4 PDPP Act, 1984.Case dossiers prepared by the police said that the two were arrested at 5.45 pm on April 13 while they were trying to escape.

During interrogation the two admitted that they MEELAL members and worked under Ch Akaba, MEELAL leader.
