Imphal, January 23 2010: In a heinous crime, a widow and her daughter missing since they were abducted by miscreants 10 days back were found murdered at an open paddy field at Tampha Loukon of Phayeng Chingkhounou under Lamshang Police Station in Imphal West district today, leaving her three children orphaned.

The way the dead bodies were found suggests possible gang rape of both mother and daughter as their clothing including inner wears was found displaced even though police is yet to confirm the same owing to the highly decomposed state of the bodies.

The decomposed bodies of the mother, Angom Chanbi (36) wife of late Khomei of Phayeng Chingkhunou village and her 17-year old daughter, Abemcha alias Bemcha reading in Standard-IX were discovered in open field this morning at about 9 am by a villager.

However, police was informed about the dead bodies at about 1 pm by the villagers.

A cowboy who went to herd his cattle in the field discovered the dead bodies first.

Villagers informed the police later.

Chanbi left behind three children, 13 year old daughter Sonika, nine year old son Tiku and five year old daughter Rita.

Reports culled out from the village said that the mother and daughter went missing since they were taken away by some miscreants on the intervening night of January 12 and 13 last.

According to 13-year old Sonika, on that fateful night two unknown persons entered to their house calling "ema ema �" and asked her to go with them stating that their leaders wanted to hold talks with her.

They also insisted her mother to go together with her daughter if she felt lonely going with them.

Later, his sister Abecha accompanied her mother.

Since then they failed to return, Sanika cried.

Villagers had little knowledge of the incident as their house is located in an isolated corner of the village but less in touch with them as they follow Christianity even as others follow Hinduism.

No complaint was lodged with the police about the missing.

"We did not received any complaint of missing or kidnapping the mother and daughter earlier," the OC of Lamshang Police Station said.

The way the dead bodies were found lying, both were apparently raped by the abductors before murdering them.

The two bodies were found at a different of around 20 feet to each other and their innerwear (panties and bras) were found lying separated from their bodies and the other clothing was found in a disheveled state.

Parts of face and chest of the mother were also damaged.

It appeared that it was eaten up by dogs or some other carnivorous animals.

Due to the highly decomposed states, any injuries to their private parts could not be examined by the police of any sign of rape but this could be confirmed only after examination by the medico legal officers who will conduct postmortem of the dead bodies, a police officer in Lamshang Police observed.

The dead bodies were retrieved from the spot and deposited at RIMS morgue for necessary official procedure by the police.

Police suspected the mother and daughter were killed by suspected miscreants who kidnapped them on the same night.
