Imphal, May 29:
Expressing concern at the plight of villagers of Sajik Tampak and nearby villages All Manipur Women's social Welfare and Development Samaj has demanded the state Govt publish a 'white paper' on measures to be adopted to address the grievances of the affected villagers.
Talking to media-persons at its Palace Gate office general secretary of the Samaj Th Ramani said pro-per attention and positive action should be taken to facilitate return of the displaced villagers at their respective homes as schools reopened at the earliest.
Necessary instructions should be given to the Indian security force authorities to shift to their camps instead of continued occupation of school buildings and private residences in Sajik Tampak and nearby villages, demanded the general secretary.
A memorandum highlighting the demands would be submitted to the State Government tomorrow, said Ramani while warning of various forms of agitation on behalf of the Sajik Tampak villagers in case the Government fail to initiate positive measures within 10 days.
The women body also strongly condemned the State Government for extension of 'disturbed area act' that completely contradicts not only the aspiration of the State people but also tantamount to mocking agitation (hunger strike) currently launched by Irom Chanu Sharmila to demand scrapping of Armed Forces special Power Act 1958 from the soil of Manipur.
A large number of representatives of the Samaj's branch units were also present during the press briefing.
Anganwadi stir: Contending that move being made by Social Welfare Dept for appointment of some posts as supervisors for ICSD project is an attempt to usurp the rights of the Anganwadi workers in the Dept, Manipur Anganwadi Mahila Organisation has demanded that if at all any appointment is to be made, it should be done on promotion basis of the Anganwadi workers.
