It has been consistent hard work, dedication coupled with blessing and solid support of the parents that has enabled Yambem Babita to realize her cherished dream of topping the Class XII Science Examination, 2004 for Manipur sector conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi this year.
A student of RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Haotal Pangei, Babita secured 93.8 percent in the examination.
Babita scored 95 marks in English, 89 in Mathematics, 90 in Chemistry, 95 in Biology, 59 in Physics and 100 marks in Painting.
She is the youngest sibling of three children born to Yambem Nabachandra and Bimola of Chingmeirong West.
Her elder sister is doing Botany Honours at Miranda House, Delhi and her elder brother studying Mathematics Honours from Hindu College, Delhi.
Sharing her moment of glory with the Sangai Express today, a soft spoken Babita humbly said that she would not have been able to achieve the top honour without the blessing and support of her parents, teachers and friends.
It is her father who wakes her up in the morning, prepare breakfast and ensures that nothing disturb her while she studies.
Besides, the examination tips given by her school teachers through telephone and confidence instilled to the students have been also found quite useful while appearing the examination.
She said that she took tuition for Mathematics and Chemistry only and spent most of her waking hours preparing for the examination.
On her future plan, she disclosed that she would like to appear in Civil Service Examination and is trying to get admission at St Stephen College, Delhi in Physics or Mathematics.
Her father, Nabachandra, informed that Babita grew up as an average student but started taking study very seriously from class VII/VIII onward.
However, in her HSLC examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) she could not figure among the list of the toppers as her marks in Manipuri subject was very low.
Chief Manager of United bank of India, Imphal Branch L Chaoton Singh who came to congratulated Babita for her success with a bouquet said that the bank could provide Education Loan amounting to Rs 15 lakhs for pursuing her higher study if it is required.
