Imphal, March 11:
Crisis within the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has come to the fore once again with newly elected party president L Borajao Meitei today issuing a notice against the meeting of the expired working committee being called by ex-party general secretary Ch Iboyaima Singh at the party office tomorrow.
Describing the proposed meeting of the expired working committee as illegal, unconstitutional and null and void, the notice issued by the party president said such illegal and unconstitutional meeting will not be allowed to hold in the office of the MPP.
According to party sources, tomorrow's meeting intends to discuss the prevailing political situation and chalk out ways to form an alliance between MPP and other local political parties.
However, newly elected party president L Borajao Meitei has not only imposed restriction on holding the meeting but has also made it clear that MPP is not in favour of entering into alliance with any of the political parties.
Despite opposition from some quarters, the position of L Borajao as party president has been solidified after the Election Commission of India recognised him as the party president.
In this regard, the Commission has despatched a letter to Ksh Brajamani, who lodged a complaint opposing to election of Borajao as party chief, and the same handed over to him through post on March 10, the source disclosed.
The Commission noted that while vacating the interim injunction on holding the election of the party, the Court had recorded requirement of holding the election by December 31, 2005 and Ksh Brajamani took part in the same election process, though defeated.
The letter of the Commission signed by its Under Secretary SR Kar further noted that any grievances in the matter is to be redressed before the competent party forum or a court of law, the source disclosed.
