Bishnupur Dist police has submitted a copy of the Assam Rifles' report addressed to OC Nambol regarding the Bungte Chiru killing to the ongoing inquiry commission demanding for a proper probe into the killing.
It may be mentioned here one Retd teacher identified as LD Rengtuiwan was killed and his wife injured on Nov 6 when AR troops resorted to heavy firing while raiding the Bungte Chiru village.
The AR complaint said based on a tip off regarding presence of six UNLF cadres, all equipped with AK 47 and M-16 Rifles along with radio sets in general area Keinou, a column of the AR unit along with police commandos rushed to the area and carried out cordon and search operation on the night of November 6.During the search operation the troops came across some persons trying to flee the area and warned them to stop.
However they failed to heed the warnings and fled forcing the AR personnel to carry out controlled firing.
The AR personnel however stopped the firing after a while and on checking the area found the body of a man and an injured woman.
The injured woman was immediately evacuated to the unit hospital for medical treatment and the dead body handed over to the police station.
Bishnupur Police has already registered an FIR case based on the report of the Assam Rifles.
At the same time, the same police also registered another FIR case after receiving another complaint lodged by the son of the deceased man.
Investigation into the FIR case in connection with the complaint lodged by AR is reported to be stalled after the complainant, a havildar of 28 AR had gone on leave.
Meanwhile SP CID (SB) Ningombam Bijoy testified before the Commission pertaining to the killing of three Kuki students by Imphal east police at KR lane today.
