The inaugural function of the 3rd Manipur State Art Exposition 2005 organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi Imphal under the aegis of Lalit Kala Akademi New Delhi was held at GM Hall today with Governor Dr SS Sidhu as the chief guest.
Addressing the function, Governor Sidhu asserted that the various forms of art such as sculpture, painting, drawing and graphic cannot speak but their expressions are very clear and without a word or a voice these art products express the imagination, thinking and instinct of the artist.
Art is deeply rooted in religion and permeates all activities, added Sidhu.
Asserting that different forms of art such as paintings, sculptures drawings are interrelated, Governor said that the work of an artist flows from his own conviction and instincts, not from the desire to please others.
Lauding the Manipur State Kala Akademi and the Lalit Kala Academi New Delhi for promoting art and culture in the Manipur and the national level respectively, Governor said that Art and culture is not merely to be drawn upon and admired but has to be studied in depth as a means of identification of a society.
He also urged the artist to create works having message of peace and communal harmony.
Imphal Art College principal G Brajamani Sharma and national Lalit Kala awardee Prof Th Tombi attended the function as the president and guest of honour respectively.
Fifty eight artist are participating at the art exposition.
Five artist of the State were also awarded during the function by the governor for their outstanding works.
