The arrangement of the Mega Marathon, 2009 which the United People's Front (UPF) has been organising every year under the theme 'Run For the Nation' has began and has been scheduled to be held on February 22 next.
The United People's Front (UPF) is organising the half marathon under the aegis of Athletic Association of Manipur.
Around 3,000 runners from Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland will be participating the marathon.
The organisers also formed many sub committees including a media sub committee for smooth and hassle free conduct of the marathon.
Programme Executive, Doordarshan Kendra Imphal, L Manibabu has been appointed as chairman of the media sub committee.
RK Sanatomba of Hueiyen Lanpao was also appointed as convenor of the committee.
The marathon will starts from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal and will go through Dingku Road, DM College Road, Khoyathong, Nagamapal, RIMS Road, Uripok Kangchup Road, Naoremthong, Tera Bazar, Sayang Lambi, Kwakeithel, Khagempalli, Pishumthong, Chingamakhong, Khongman Mangjil, Kongba Road, Ayangpalli Road, Porompat, Lamlong and will finish at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Runners will compete in four different categories viz - Men's Open, Women's Open, Veteran Men's Open and Veteran Women's Open categories.
First, second and third position holders of all categories will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 each respectively.
There will be also other consolation prizes.
Technical officials of the Athletic Association of Manipur will conduct the marathon.
The distance of the marathon will be 21 kilometres and 92 metres.
There will be six check points throughout the route of the marathon.
The organisers appealled the various clubs and organisation which are situated at the routes of the marathon to help UPF in conducting the marathon.
The UPF, Manipur also appealled the people of the state not to cause any kind of disturbance or interference in the marathon.
UPF further requested the businessmen and peoples of the state for financial assistant help UPF in conducting this marathon which aims for a healthy Manipur.
In the meantime, runners from Meghalaya and Nagaland will be arriving here from February 10 onwards to participate the marathon.
UPF will arrange for their staying.
