The foundation stone for construction of a Solid Waste Management Project for the first time in the State has been laid Lamdeng Lokchao in Imphal West district today.
The foundation stone of the project was laid by Works Minister K Ranjit Singh as chief guest in the presence of PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken who presided over the function and MLA of Lamshang Assembly Constituency W Brajabidhu and Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council M Ranisana who were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
To be constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), the estimated cost of the project is Rs 29.94 crores.
Out of the total sanctioned project cost of Rs 29.94 crores, Rs 5.80 crores had been released in December last year.
With that steps have been taken up for construction of the project with Deccan Consultant as the implementing agency while the civil works would be taken up by the PDA.
The project is to be taken up covering over an area of 88 acres.
The components of the civil works that PDA has been entrusted with include sanitary landfilled unit, west receiving platform and compost pad, construction of boundary wall, retaining wall, general store, biomedical block and administrative block.
Speaking at the occasion, Works Minister K Ranjit observed that lack of quality maintenance in the construction work of any development projects has become a serious issue being faced by the people of the State today.
The Government is also fully aware of this problem and has its definite stand that the quality of the work should not be compromised by anybody at all, the Minister said, adding the co-operation of the people in this regard is also essential.
