Imphal, December 01:
Defending champions SSU began their quarter-final league round campaign of the 51st CC Meet with a convincing victory over City Club Heirok.
At Mapal Kangjeibung today, both SSU Singjamei and City Club Heirok made cautious start to the match.
However, as the match progressed the defending champions slowly got control of the match.
Yet, despite some clear chances to take lead, the SSU strikers floundered and failed to convert a single shot.
In the second half, the Singjamei side was clearly dominating in the mid-field.
Eventually David Kamson headed the ball into the rival net off a fine cross by Kh Oken from the left flank in the 70th minute.
Ten minutes later, Kh Oken set up another for N Dhananjoy who gave SSU a comfortable 2 goal lead.
For the greater part of the second half, the City Club players were contained in their own half.
Their rare forays into the rival half could not make any serious threat to the SSU custodian.
The match was sealed in the 83rd minute with a powerful shot from David Kamson for a 3-0 victory.
Earlier, AMOFA Moirang edged past NEROCA Sangakpham by a solitary goal via a penalty kick.
In the 12th minute, AMOFA was awarded a penalty kick for handling ball by S Thomas in the penalty area.
Th Joychandra made no mistake to convert it.
Even though, NEROCA got a fine chance to equalise the slender lead from a penalty kick awarded in their favour in the 52nd minute, the Moirang keeper K Premananda came up with a brilliant save to deny L Nabachandra an equaliser for the Sangakpham side.
Despite repeated attempts by NEROCA strikers to neutralise the lead, all their efforts proved futile.
As such AMOFA collected full three points in their first match of the quarter-final league round.
