Imphal, December 01:
Setting December 4 as the deadline for fulfilling their demand, aggrieved transporters who have been removed from their earlier parking lot after the November 15 order of restricting entry and parking of passenger vehicles in and around Khwairamband Bazar area have decided to launch various intense agitation against the Government in case it fails to do the needful.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, president of Passenger Transporters' Joint Action Committee, Imphal Bazar area K Jugeshore pointed that parking space for passenger vehicles have been allotted at different parts of the market area like BT Road, in front of State Museum, behind Pologround as well as in front of Family Welfare office for the last many years in accordance to the order issued by the Traffic Regulation and Parking Committee which is under he Directorate of Transport, Govt of Manipur.
However, entry and parking of these passenger vehicles have been banned following the November 17 order issued by SP of Imphal West District Police.
Subsequent to the said order, no alternative parking space for these passenger vehicles has been arranged so far, thereby causing lot of difficulty to both the passengers and the transporters alike.
Highlighting the matter, the Committee has already submitted memorandum to all the authorities concerned including the Chief Minister on November 24 with the request for reinstating the parking lots.
But till date no positive response has been received in this regard, Jugeshore lamented.
The attitude of the Government in not providing a definite parking space is condemnable as it amounts to depriving the livelihood of the transporters who are service of ferrying public.
So, in case the Government fails to reinstate the earlier parking space or make an alternative arrangement within the set deadline, the Committee would be constrained to launch various intense agitations from the very next day starting with Wakat Meepham, he said , adding that on December 6, the transporters will surrender all the documents related to their vehicles to the Transport Department.
