Imphal, December 01:
Troops of 3 Corps of the Army operating in Hajadisa in North Cachar Hills of Assam foiled the attempt by militants to subvert the second phase of polling to the NC Hills Autonomous District Council on November 30, said a statement issued by PIB Defence Wing yesterday.
Giving details, the statement said that in the small hours of November 30, an alert patrol of 57 Mountain Artillery Brigade had an encounter with militants lying in ambush for polling officials in the remote area of Hajadisa.
After the encounter, the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle and one US Carbine with 14 rounds of ammunition.
Blood stains in the area indicated injuries to at least two militants, claimed the statement.
