AR destroys poppy plantation

Troops of Assam Rifles under HQs IGAR (S) assisted representatives of Narcotics and Affairs of Border, Manipur in destroying illegal poppy plantation in the remote and inaccessible areas in chandel district along the Indo-Myanmar border, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.
In the burning and hacking down of poppy cultivation at the district�s Chakpikarong areas, about 333 acres of cultivation worth about Rs 5.75 crores and another site of about 225 acres in Joupi area of Khengjoi sub-division estimated to be worth Rs 3.8 crores have been destroyed, the release informed.
Such campaigns are likely to go a long way in making Manipur State a drug-free zone and help free large number of youth from the clutches of drug abuse thereby ensuring a bright future for the populace and development of the State, expressed the PRO release.
